Abstract

The paper presents the results of research on the enkolpio collection of the 11th – the first quarter of the 13th century discovered by the Novgorod archaeological expedition of the Institute of Archaeology RAS in the last 10 years. The collection includes 16 reliquary crosses, two of which represent new variants of small relief encolpio crosses. A brief location survey, morphological description and iconographic characteristics of all the finds are given. The author shows the distribution dynamics of new finds of encolpios in the Novgorod cultural layer in the context of the formation of the Ancient Rus Christian culture.
