Abstract

The article analyzes Canada’s economic performance and the federal economic policies in 2014. Canada’s main economic indicators – the real GDP growth, unemployment rate and the consolidated government debt to GDP ratio – continue to look better than those of other major advanced economies. However, the high turbulence in the global markets and volatility of commodity prices make Canada’s economic recovery unstable and uncertain. It is characterized by growing industrial and regional imbalances. Internal economic policy is focused on eliminating the federal budgetary deficit by 2015. The Canadian government is concerned about some troubling “irritants” in its economic relationship with the USA and is trying to diversify the external trade and investment beyond the North American borders.
