Abstract
The impact of organized crime on the inter-regional price spread is estimated for each year from 1992 to 2000 and for the period 1993-2000 for samples that include 70 regions of Russia and 50 regions of its European part. In most cases, the relationship between prices and crime is statistically significant and positive. Organized crime makes a significant contribution to the average interregional spread of prices. However, the role of organized crime has declined over time.
