Abstract
The author of this article connects the role of higher school in socio-economic development at the present stage with realization of its main functions: forming and perfection of scientific-pedagogical and scientitic-technical potential of country. On the base of real material the author shows the achievements of Soviet system highere education in accelerating of social and scientific-technical progress, discusses those aspects of its functioning which need real perfection. Methodological questions for determination of national-econmic effectiveness of higher school are under consideration in the article.
