- Abstract
- The article surveys the development of technical standards for Russian railroads from the Imperial period to the present, focusing specifically on the production of rails, including their chemical composition, strength, and other major characteristics. It describes the activities of the special Commission on Rails at the Engineering Council of the Ministry of Communications at the turn of the 20 th century and the development of the technology of thermal hardening. The progress of locomotives and traction also influenced the changes in the technology of rail production.
