Abstract

Presented here is the fi rst article in the series of publications on the analysis of the Russian social sphere development processes in the 1990s and the 2000s. Analyzed are the trends in population replacement, fertility, mortality and migration as well as the changes in health care, education and social maintenance systems that have infl uenced the demographic processes.
