- Abstract
- The theme of Moscow in the St. Petersburg novella is dealt with in the paper, the main issues of discussion being its plot and imagery in connection with the juxtaposition of the hero of the day who is oriented to Western culture and the old Moscow aristocracy in the context of the basic opposition between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Special attention is paid to characteristic Moscow details in connection with card games, in particular. Moscow family traditions as reflected in the scene of the appearance of the ghost are revealed.
